Assessing the state of our seas

To make this assessment we have used standards, criteria or indicators that describe a particular desired status or quality associated with the marine vision and then checked how the evidence measures up. Where, for example, there was insufficient information to do this, we have relied on expert judgement; this is where experienced scientists have used available evidence and understanding to assign status.

We have also compared results collected in different years to assess whether status is improving over time and to try to project whether the vision is likely to be achieved.
